The new single from 30 Seconds to Mars premiered this morning on Los Angeles’ KROQ. “Kings and Queens” is featured on their upcoming record This Is War due December 8th. Download the song on iTunes October 13th.

One of the album covers that will be used in some countries and after the Faces Of Mars campaign has also been revealed earlier this week.

EA Games has announced that the game Rock Band will be coming to the iPhone at the ending of this month.
Music from 30 Seconds To Mars, AFI, All-American Rejects, Beastie Boys, Blink-182, Blondie, Foo Fighters, Pixies, Rise Against, Silversun Pickups, The Presidents of the United States of America, and others will be featured in this version of Rock Band.
In addition to built in tracks, songs from the likes of OK Go, Smashing Pumpkins, Lenny Kravitz, Social Distortion, and various other artists will be available for purchase.

30 Seconds to Mars are not exactly what you’d call a subtle rock band. Their This Is War album ( due December 8 ) features songs written in Berlin and recorded in Hawaii (with Kanye West), guest vocals from fans recorded at so-called “summits” around the globe, and appearances by Tibetan monks and Iranian Twitterers, to name just a few.

So, it’s not surprising to learn that the video for War‘s first single, “Kings and Queens,” has become a gigantic event too. In fact, 30STM were no longer even referring to it as a video. It’s a short film now.

“Our rule as a band is, when we do videos — which, I don’t often think of them as videos, more as short films — let’s make sure the experience is amazing,” frontman Jared Leto explained. “We’ve been to China in the past. We’ve been to the Arctic, so really, to do this video, in one way, was much simpler … but it’s also been more of a challenge. It’s still equally huge in its own way.”

No, “Kings and Queens” wasn’t shot in China (like their “From Yesterday” clip was) or on the polar ice caps (like “A Beautiful Lie”), but it’s no less of an epic undertaking. They have been filming over the course of several nights in and around some of Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks, recruiting scores of extras and all manner of surrealist street performers. On Monday night, for example, 30STM had taken over the famed Santa Monica Pier and, along with an army of fixed-gear bikers, were filming a segment called “The Ride,” which is just a portion of the “Kings and Queens” short film, a spokesperson for the band explained later.

We know, we’re confused too. Not to mention a tad bit overwhelmed. After all, music videos aren’t usually shot on this kind of scope and scale anymore. But 30 Seconds to Mars aren’t in the business of making music videos these days.

“We’re doing all-night shoots. That was my big, dumb idea, to shoot at night,” Leto said. “But I think this city is a beautiful place at night, and we have these empty streets, and it’s kind of a haunting, forgotten landscape … very serene. It’s about reclaiming public spaces.

“It’s been an incredible adventure, but it’s also been really difficult, because there are so many people, and we’re shutting down streets of Los Angeles,” he continued. “Downtown, bridges, some tunnels, Hollywood Boulevard, Santa Monica Pier, we’ll be up on Mulholland [Drive], overlooking the city. But the idea, the night rides, I just had some friends that were doing Critical Mass and Crank Mob and People’s Ride in L.A. And it’s that sort of serendipitous thing, where people started talking to me about it in my life, and then my friend got a fixed gear, and then another friend of mine got a fixed gear. I thought the world was really interesting, and I thought it would be a really beautiful backdrop for the video.”

Rockers 30 SECONDS TO MARS are considering giving away their new album for free – because they didn’t make any money from their previous recordings.
The band was formed in 1998 by actor Jared Leto and his brother, Shannon, and they went on to release two records – their self-titled debut in 2002 and 2005′s A Beautiful Lie.
They are currently working on their third LP, This Is War, which is scheduled for release later this year (09).
But Leto admits that they are toying with the idea of giving the album away to fans as an internet download, because they have never made much money from their music.
He says, “Anything can happen, you never know what the future will hold. Maybe we will just throw our new album on the internet and see if anybody wants to take it. We have never made a penny from selling a record anyway so why would it matter to us?”
30 Seconds To Mars were last year (08) handed a $30 million (£15 million) lawsuit from their bosses at Virgin Records, who have accused the rockers of quitting the label without delivering the agreed number of albums.

you want faery tales, a beautiful prince. so i give you a faery tale. a prince, and a Yugo, too. we begin on a Monday night, right before bed: the Tale of How the Cats Became Socialists, including a Yugo, Che Guevera, a moat, a roadtrip to the National Poetry Slam, the Goo Goo Dolls, a bookstore on Euclid Ave across from the coop in Cleveland Heights, Gabrielle Boulliane, and Adam Rubenstein, among other hilights. relax, ok – you’ll like it.

Part 1 – Enlightenment & Escape
we begin with the Lovely Prince Che (long hair! a sharp jawline! smarts!), imprisoned in a tower (surrounded by a moat, even!) by his Evil Imperialist Uncle! & with nothing to do, he digs through the one, shallow closet, to find it empty but for some blankets – and a copy of the Marx-Engalls Primer.

no! don’t groan! it’s not that terrible – listen! there’s a kitty door. its original intent was a utilitarian means for the Uncle to provide meals to the prince during his imprisonment. but a boon to Che it is! because of the kitty door, the prince gets to hang out with his beloved pets. the four cats are his solace during the long stretch in the tower. they sit with him all day & all night, & when Che reads the book, he reads it to them. thusly, the cats become Enlightened!

the cats come together one afternoon and have a meeting. they decide that they need to spread their message. upon consideration with Prince Che, it quickly becomes clear that what they need – what they really need – is a printing press. action must be taken!

down below the tower’s one window is the answer. there, parked in the driveway, just yards from the drawbridge, is the car. Che’s car. & he somehow managed to retain his car keys all this time! the cats are sure that they can get down there – the jump from the window seems reasonable, & they land on their feet well, you know, being cats.

& so they form a Plan: Snowball, being the tallest, shall steer, as he can see over the dash. Salvador, being wily & fast, will be responsible for the gas & brakes. Serge, of considerable heft, he shall take care that the clutch is depressed fully and at the right time. BisQuit, well… he’ll have to hang off the stick shift & do his best. Snowball will advise him of which gear.

Che tosses down the keys. the cats follow one at a time. on the ground, behind the car they form a lopsided pyramid & combine efforts (this is not hard, they are socialists) to pop the hatchback. they assume their positions for driving, Serge jumps on the clutch, Salvador jams the gas, & thankfully, the emergency brake gives beneath a furious kick from Snowball – they run the drawbridge, leaving the Evil Imperialist Uncle shaking his fist behind them in the dust!

30 Seconds to Mars 2002

The band’s debut self-titled album, produced by Bob Ezrin, was released in 2002 to mixed reviews and achieved sales of just over 100,000[citation needed]. The album produced two singles, Capricorn (A Brand New Name) and Edge of the Earth. The former peaked at #31 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart.

A Beautiful Lie 2005

Their sophomore album, A Beautiful Lie, was released on August 30, 2005. Because the album was leaked five months before its release, the band decided to include two bonus tracks: “Battle of One” (an original song that was also set to be the album’s title track when it was first announced) and “Hunter” (a cover of the Björk song). To further promote the album, the band also enclosed “golden tickets” in 12 copies, which granted their owners access to any 30 Seconds to Mars concert free of charge, along with backstage access.

The Echelon
The Echelon is a publicity street team for the band 30 Seconds to Mars, which helps in bringing friends to the shows, phoning local radio stations to request the band’s songs, putting up posters, posting to band forums or related bulletin boards online, voting for the band in official award nominations and maintaining magazines or websites dedicated to the band. It is also the name of one of their songs in the album 30 Seconds to Mars.

Logo
The band’s phoenix logo.The band’s phoenix logo (which the band named “Mithra”) bears the phrase “Provehito in Altum”, the band’s motto. Roughly translated from Latin, this means “Launch forth into the deep”; but a more stylized version would be “Rocket in(to) High(ness)”. The logo was primarily used for promotion of the band’s debut, whereas for A Beautiful Lie, the new Trinity logo was created consisting of three skulls, along with the band’s name and motto.
